Revelation of the Cybermen

It’s that time of year again, where I succumb to temptation and start putting up promotional Doctor Who images. Actually, this should be the only one.

New Cyberman Design

What do you think? Some people hate it. Some people love it. As usual on the net. Personally I think it looks pretty cool but it’ll need to be filmed right. I like how they’ve made it a very 60s style robot and haven’t gone all borg-ish on us.

The press release is on the Doctor Who site

  1. I hate its head and 70s style pants. They’re so out, even for robots from the 60s.

    What’s the coat-hanger for?

  2. Which coat-hanger? I love the head and flares, personally. If I’m ever made into a robot I want to look like this.

My favourite comment on the Outpost Gallifrey forum:

“Total crap, hate the design […] Just looks so plain and boring and erm Buffy-esq.”

  3. The stupid one on it’s head? Do they all hand in racks when they’re not being used?

I like his/her eyebrows. Gives the robot a kind of expression of incredulity at the imbecility that non-cybermen are capable of.

I’d wear flares if they were made of steel.

  4. Looks more like jug-handles than a coat-hanger to me, if you’re wanting to take the piss. They’re a classic part of the design, kind of ears/antennae, they couldn’t really have ditched them.

I love the expression too. Kind of sad, uncomprehending and puzzled neutrality. I love the tear-drops, which are also an old touch from one of the 60s designs.

  5. That’s just to fool you and make you feel connected, so they can take over the world behind your back! don’t truck the tear-eyebrow-bots!

It could be used to store them in large store houses, or as a giant football-usage jug-holder, yes. Now which is more likely?

A robot that drinks alkohol? How ludicrous. That’s never been before. ;)

  6. he reminds me of the robot from “Space Balls”. the chick robot, dont ask me why. Something to do with the coathanger head. Really takes away any threatningness.

  7. Do you mean this or this?
