Caprica
First Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then Stargate SG-1, then Doctor Who, and now this. Battlestar: Galactica is getting a spin-off prequel series. I’m sure there are more series with spin-offs out there but these are the only ones I’ve actually watched.
I’m not sure what I think of this. In Torchwood‘s case I wasn’t too worried, because the Brits have shorter seasons, and because the two shows would be so different. This is a lot of work for a limited amount of people to do. I hope they’re up to it. I don’t want to get two series of diluted quality.

is it just me or does you first sentance make it sound as though Angel and Atlantis GOT the the spin off’s rather than WERE the spin offs.

A trap for young players there. My apologies to anyone who was confused. Is it just me, our does you only sentance not spelled right?

Thankyou for pointing out that obvious typographical error and that hideously unambigious spelling mistake. More pitfalls for the children at home to avoid.
Seriously though, those errors don’t encourage any misinterpretation. Your post however, also suggests you’ve watched Torchwood, which I only bring up because I wasn’t invited to the screening. I’m deeply hurt – so much so that I plan to watch the O.C finale without you. Bitch.
Humorous possible interpretations aside – how sure are we that the same group of people will do both BSG and Caprica? Obviously the executive producers are the same, but I’m not sure what they do anyway. I know there is a strong precedent for a writing team to split up, but I’d prefer a new bunch, for the reasons you’ve stated.
At least we will always have seasons 1 and 2 locked away. Perhaps we should quite watching all television shows after 2 or 3 seasons.

I apologise. I should have chosen one sarcastic response and stuck with it. My post was badly phrased. The second sentence doesn’t help either. I’ll follow Mattt’s helpful advice.
The executive producers do a lot of the writing, and planning of the season, I think — Ronald D. Moore at least does — but they might bring on a whole bunch of new writers and we won’t have a problem.

Other ambiguities to clear up are: the Buffy, SG-1 and Doctor Who spin-offs are not prequels (although some of Torchwood’s episodes will be set before some of Doctor Who’s); Tom has watched the B5 spin-off, Crusade, although he might deny doing so; Tom has watched The X-files, which has a spin-off; I suspect Tom has watched Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place but can’t prove it.

Ah, Crusade, I forgot about that. Though that happened after the death of the parent show, so I thought of that in part as a continuation rather than spin-off.
I forgot about The Lone Gunmen too, but then, I never saw that. Season Nine of The X-Files was practically a spin-off show.
I can happily and honestly declare that I never watched Beverly Hills 90210 or Melrose Place. Was one of them a spin-off of the other?
