That’s a horrid restriction. If I were a dalek I wouldn’t stand for it.

Maybe they don’t have the power to hover and shoot at the same time.

The hovering thing with Daleks hasn’t really been explored properly yet. It looked quite hover-ish in that story, but in one previous story they attempted to present a flying Dalek through cunning use of a catapult.

I’d rather they flew. In the comics they used to have ‘hovermounts’ that zipped around all over the place.

It’s not tense when the thing wants to kill them, and they’re standing in range of its weapon like chumps, and it decides to slowly hover up the stairs. It took me out of the fiction, rather.

The slowness of the dalek does allow for a longer build up of tension than with the World War 3 aliens when they are stuck in the dead end.

The time it took for the Dalek to start hovering was just for dramtic tension. Or maybe they have a little bit of a problem with stairs. It looked like it took a lot of effort to get that fat can off the ground. I imagine in later episodes the Daleks will be faster at flying when needed but it did look like the Dalek hovered at about the speed it rolled. Can Daleks actually fly or just hover? What is their height limitation?

It looks like they’re making the most of their chance to rewrite some of the continuity of Dr Who. The build up is continuing at a nice steady pace.
