12:01 Today will be my first day at uni. I have a class at 8:30. WHY AM I STILL AWAKE? Stupid Crackdown.

7:15 Fuck fuck fuck. I’ve slept in. My train leaves in 15 minutes. Nothing else for it then. Short Shower. No Breakfast. No time to check if these underpants are clean. But they probably are.

7:34 I made it. I get a seat on the awesome train between express trains. It’s pretty empty. I don’t even have to pretend I’m asleep to avoid having to offer my seat to old people. I love it when that happens.

8:30 No time for a coffee, my lecture has already started.

8:55 Hello? Anyone here? My lecturer is late. I could have had my coffee.

9:00 Here he is. He says he’s sorry. Apparently next week lectures are going to start at 8:45. He thinks that getting to uni at 8:30 is challenging. I don’t see how getting up fifteen minutes earlier is challenging. Lazy fuck. I could have had a coffee 30 minutes ago. I don’t forgive him.

9:30 At least he finished on time. I miss having a computer. I’ve lost the old metcard that I wrote today’s timetable on. I need to get to a computer. I wish I remembered things, but who really needs to when you can keep everything you need and more on the internet?

9:35 Ah, coffee. My headache should go away in about 20 minutes.

9:40 Apparently more people are going to private school now. Is this really front page news?

9:50 Why do all university toilets have that really abrasive, non-absorbent toilet paper? Okay, I don’t really require it to absorb anything but fuck, they could make it a bit softer. I suppose you think it’s my fault for being blessed with a sensitive behind. You aren’t going to get any dog playing and rolling around in this stuff.

9:59 Look! Swinburne is into tokenism. I found a lone iMac in a lab of PC’s. It’s like Spock from Star Trek. I’m sure there’s a Linux machine lying around somewhere. That’s probably Janeway. I haven’t really thought this through.

10:05 Luckily, the thing I had straight after my lecture doesn’t start until week 2. Because I would be late by now. My next class doesn’t start until 14:30. Damn it. What am I going to do for four hours with no laptop? I’ll call them, that’s that I’ll do.

10:07 It isn’t ready. I hates them. Fuck this. I’m going home.

10:10 I remember I’ve left my key at home. I’ve picked the one day of the week that Matt decides to do something and leave the house. I’m locked out, so I’m staying. Maybe people are up for a game of Wabble.

15:30 Seriously, there are some serious serious nerds in my degree. Help.

Now, the extra-letter-police (also known as Andy and occasionally as Captain Sardonica) can lay off. What a thrilling ceremony. It was at least mercifully short. A quick checklist:

Number of tickets I had to secrete beneath a nearby wheelie bin so that my folks could pick them up when they arrived late: 2.

Number of mentions of Joss Whedon: 1.

Number of bizarrely coincidental seatings next to cute ex-St Leonards students: 1. Oh, that Katharine Sarah Rachel Blaze.

Number of mentions of Bob Dylan: 1.

Number of people who slipped over on the way out because they stood on the long trails of my bag straps: 0. But it was close. I didn’t realise why everyone was standing back from me till I got to the end. It may of course have been my breath too.

Number of people who adjusted my academic robes: 4. You’ve got to look your best.

Number of DVDs of the night purchased afterwards: 0. I might have considered it if there was a Deputy Chancellor’s Commentary.

Two assessments down, one to go. Then I’m free! FREE! Free at last! Well, free in the ‘unemployed’ sense of the word but hey. I promise, once I’m done with this crap, to go see some actual movies and review things for Grapefruit that occurred after the beginning of the millennium. And that aren’t television.

Also, I’m meaning to slightly rejig the weblog so we can have footnotes in them. I’m lost without my footnotes. If I could have, this would been a footnote.

Just thought I’d share some advice with everyone. If it’s about 5:30 – 7:00pm, and you get a phone call from a private number, and you say “Hello?” and no one answers for about three seconds, hang up immediately. It’s almost certainly a call from a market research person, probably in India, and if it isn’t then I’m sure they’ll call you back.

This has been a public service announcement from Grapefruit.

The more astute of you will have noticed the lack of a grapefruit redesign. It’s on it’s way, there’s just a few kinks to iron out. And, an acupuncture website to make, as Shannon is no doubt thinking when she reads this. Almost done Shannon! Here’s an update of some things that have happened to me recently, while the tumbleweeds roll past grapefruit.

I’ve gotten roped into helping with yet another website, for EMS. If you like the design, don’t congratulate me; it’s just a theme that came with the Content Management System, Mambo. I did the picture though.

I found a very nifty little Mac app, still in beta, called CoverFlow. It’s a way of browsing your albums stored in iTunes. When you move the mouse along the covers, they slide about, and you can flick through a bunch as if they were on a rack. Pointless but sexy. A better solution for the Mac and Music head perhaps is Clutter.

I walked all the way to a tutorial, and then back along three blocks of La Trobe street today with my fly undone, and my hands in my pockets. What’s stupidest about this is that I noticed the fly issue in the tutorial, covered myself up, and then forgot all about it.

I found this cunning solution to the scratching on the back of iPods the other day. Easier than some iPod modifications I’ve seen.

In tutorial related news: I appear to be the wisest person in my English tute. This hasn’t happened before. I don’t know if I got cleverer or everyone else is slightly (and only slightly) sillier. I suspect that I’m more at home in the highly text-based analysis of Character and the Novel than with the historical perspectives of Shakespearean Worlds and Victorian Crime Writing last semester.

I got home today to find an extension for my Computational Physics report on Quantum Mechanical Bound States. Yippee! And I was all stressed out. The lecture I missed this week is online, as well. I must have gathered some good karma somewhere.
